Telling the time – Cambridge ELT

Cambridge ELT has an excellent interactive clock for practising quarter past, half past and quarter to.

There are various options that can be accessed by clicking the ‘show panel’ button. These include practising times in hours, half-hours and quarter-hours. For extra challenge, the numbers on the clock can also be turned off.

By choosing the ‘word times’ option the clock can be used in the following ways:

  1. Click the arrow on the left of the screen to display a time in written form. The learner then has to show the equivalent time on the analogue clock (click the OK button to check the answer).
  2. Click the cat’s paw on the right of the screen to display a time on the analogue clock. The learner has to select the correct words and numbers to show the equivalent time (again, click OK to check the answer).

Note: The clock requires the Adobe Flash plugin, which means it may not work on some devices. Instructions on how to install Adobe Flash on Android devices can be found here.
